… The Kingdom of Glory

From the book ‘Treasures in Heaven’ …

What exactly is ‘glory’? In the Bible, there are examples of God’s glory appearing. For instance, in the Old Testament, God’s glory appeared at times as a cloud, at times as a shining pillar of fire. God’s glory is usually associated with a glowing or a shining. But those are just examples of how God’s glory appears. Not it’s essence.

Glory itself is the visible outward reflection of the inward nature and character of God.

Glory in general can be defined as a reflection of what is best and true about a person or a thing. For example, the glory of the bush is the flower. The glory of the stalk is the ear of corn. The glory of the tree is the apple. The glory of God is His love, His kindness, His mercy. These attributes and more reflect the truly wonderful nature of God.

1 Peter 4:14:

If you are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed are you, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you. On their part He is blasphemed, but on your part He is glorified.

… the Word of Wisdom

From the book ‘Treasures in Heaven’ …

In heaven, God builds with things like jasper, pure gold, even crystal glass! (Revelation 21:18) In heaven, we will partner together with God in building incredible structures to the praise of His glory. Even now, here on earth God gives us the honor and privilege of being (King James Version) “laborers together with God” (1 Corinthians 3:9)

The spiritual gift of the word of wisdom is given for this purpose. God wants us all to be “wise master builders”. (1 Corinthians 3:10) Through the spiritual gift, God wants to give us words that build into people’s lives. He wants us to build ministries and organizations that change the world. He wants to give us ideas at our work and in our home to create and to build things that glorify Him to the world around us. He wants you to build a spirit of peace in your home and in your work place. When Satan tries to bring tension or unrest, when Satan tries to pull down and destroy, God wants to give you a word of wisdom to build up and restore peace.

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. (Matthew 5:9)

… The Word of Knowledge

From the book ‘Treasures in Heaven’ …

In heaven, the knowledge of the Lord will be our daily food. God will feed us with knowledge of Himself. We will chew on it, mediate on and swallow it. It will be our daily delight. It will be what satisfies.

Jesus was referring to this heavenly reality when He told His disciples to eat His flesh and to drink His blood. Jesus knew and experienced heaven here on earth. He knew of the true food and drink that satisfies. True food is the intimate knowledge of God obtained directly from the mouth of God.

This living not by bread alone but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God (Deuteronomy 8:3) is available in the here and now by the spiritual gift of the word of knowledge.

A lot of people only associate this gift with supernaturally receiving knowledge from God about other people or events. In other words, receiving a supernatural knowledge not obtained by natural means. Yet the ability to “read someone’s mail” is but a small part of this spiritual gift. The main (and dire I say most important) part of this gift is receiving knowledge about God directly from the mouth of God.

… Discerning of Spirits

From the book ‘Treasure in Heaven’ …

Psalms 34:8: Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good; Blessed is the man who trusts in Him!

The next treasure in heaven is the treasure of discovery. Because of ignorance, some people are actually not looking forward to heaven! When they think heaven, they think aimless inactivity. They think sitting on a cloud playing a harp. Nothing could be further from the truth!

As a counter to this misconception, I believe the next move of God here on earth will include the restoration of the spiritual gift of discerning of spirits. (1 Corinthians 12:10) To ‘discern’ means to taste, to feel or to touch. It may seem odd to talk about tasting God, but that is an accurate description of the spiritual gift. God wants to activate our spiritual senses in the here and now. He wants us to see Him in creation, to hear Him as we ponder His word and to smell Him in the spiritual atmosphere around us.

Psalms 119:103: How sweet are Your words to my taste, Sweeter than honey to my mouth!

… Speaking in Tongues

From the book ‘Treasures in Heaven’ …

The first treasure in heaven is common language and shared purpose. A glimpse of this reality can be seen in the spiritual gift of speaking in tongues.

Unity is only possible because of the common indwelling of the Holy Spirit. Only as the Holy Spirit fills people can true unity be achieved. As believers, we are called ‘the body of Christ’ (Romans 12:4-5), united under Jesus, the head of the body, joined together by the Holy Spirit.

Attempts at unity through clarity of doctrinal argument will fail. Temporary unity through a common earthly purpose will fade. Unity brought about by strong earthly leadership will soon pass. Only through the Holy Spirit indwelling can truly joined hearts be achieved.

… the sanctified imagination

The key to routinely seeing heaven is having a sanctified imagination.

To sanctify means to set aside for a Godly purpose. By faith declare that your imagination will be used exclusively to contemplate Jesus and heaven. Then establish a practice of setting aside time to quiet your mind and to allow God to speak to you and to show you your inheritance.

Chances are, at first you’ll find the hard part to be trying to quiet your mind. There are several techniques that can help. Some people recite the ‘Jesus prayer’, some learn techniques where you concentrate solely on your breathing. For me, speaking in tongues is also very helpful. I use all of these techniques. I don’t want things to become stale or routine.

There is immediate benefit in such a practice especially for those who struggle with ungodly thoughts and imaginations. If this is you, start such a routine*. Take the offensive in the battle for your mind!

* It normally takes threes weeks to establish any new habit.

What is God showing you about heaven?
